“I am a witness to countless patterns and behaviours”

This work was exhibited at Tacit Galleries in Melbourne between May 29 to June 23, 2019

The inspiration for this work comes from regular nocturnal surveillance. I consciously make few preliminary sketches and work from observation to finished piece in as short a time as is possible – a type of metaphorical shorthand. This rapid-fire method does not allow time for accurate portrayals, thereby eliminating any overt references to wildlife art.

Because they are made from memories gleaned during my night searches they have inbuilt inaccuracies of appearance, texture and scale – a stylised form of recognition. Despite this seemingly indifferent way of recording, the works have a certain museum collecting quality favoured in earlier times.
